Fiona was a Nurse Consultant in Travel Medicine, heading up the national travel medicine agenda at Health Protection Scotland (now Public Health Scotland) in the years following the retiral of Dr Eric Walker. Over her career Fiona was heavily involved with originating and developing many key initiatives (in education, research, and clinical practice), helping to form the foundation for the practice of Travel Medicine as the specialty it is today. Fiona strived to be an advocate for nurses working in travel health and the unique skills they bring to the specialty, and one of her proudest career achievements was becoming President of the International Society of Travel Medicine – the first (and currently, only) nurse to have been voted into this prestigious position.
Fiona retired from clinical practice in 2018 in order to pursue her second career – jewellery design and silversmithing – as well as indulge her love of travelling. Whilst no longer actively involved in the specialty, Fiona enjoys being able to meet and catch-up with those friends and colleagues forged during her career, on her many and varied travels abroad.
